The IBM System Storage™ DS5000 series storage system is designed to meet today’s demanding open-systems requirements, while establishing a new standard for life cycle longevity to support future product enhancements. Building on many decades of design expertise, the DS5000 series’ seventh-generation architecture delivers industry-leading performance, real reliability, multi-dimensional scalability, and unprecedented investment protection.  Additionally, the IBM DS500 Series delivers real-world performance that’s designed to meet the diverse and aggregate workloads created by consolidation/virtualization.

Balanced Performance for Cost-effective Storage

Its new seventh-generation architecture ensures that it delivers extreme and balanced performance, well suited for virtualization/consolidation. Next-generation 8 Gigabits per second (Gbps) Fibre Channel (FC) interfaces enable infrastructure simplification, and mixed host interfaces support (FC/SCSI over IP (iSCSI)) enables Storage Area Network (SAN) tiering. Mixed host interfaces provide support for intermixing FC/Full Disk Encryption (FDE)/Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA), and SSD drives enables cost-effective tiered storage.

Centrally Managed Storage Scalability

“Invest-as-you-grow” scalability enables you effectively, intelligently build up to 448 drives for DS5100 and the DS5300 to meet the most demanding capacity requirements utilizing the EXP5000 expansion enclosure. Feature-rich management software maximizes utilization and minimizes storage total cost of ownership (TCO), enabling central management of the DS series with the IBM System Storage DS® Storage Manager. New high-density EXP5060 enclosure supporting 60 - 1 TB SATA drives in 4U package ensures you have the storage capacity you need..

High Availability and Complete Compatibility

The IBM DS500 Series is designed to support high availability with dual active, hot-swappable controllers, power supplies and many non-disruptive firmware upgrades, and host interface cards provide investment protection and life cycle longevity now with 4 Gbps, 8 Gbps FC, or optional 1 Gbps iSCSI connectivity to improve efficiency and lower costs. Up to 700,000 IOPs and 6,400 MBps mean super-fast processing. Heterogeneous support for the most common operating systems, including Microsoft® Windows®, UNIX®, and Linux®, means extensive coverage.
