Building on over 30 years of design expertise, the 7900's seventh-generation XBB2 architecture delivers relentless performance, bullet-proof reliability, multi-dimensional scalability and unprecedented investment protection.

The 7900's industry-leading performance is equally adept at supporting transactional-applications, such as databases and OLTP, and throughput-intensive applications, such as HPC and rich media. Additionally, its balanced performance and the ability to excel at mixed workloads allow the 7900 to easily handle the diverse and concurrent workloads created by consolidation and virtualization implementations.

The 7900’s unparalleled efficiencies enable customers to meet storage requirements with minimal raw capacity – reducing acquisition, support and operational costs. Its exceptional per-drive performance and support for lightning-fast solid state disks (SSDs) reduces the number of drives needed to meet performance demands. Support for enclosure-level intermixing of high-performance FC and SSD drives with high-capacity SATA drives enables space-efficient tiered storage. And the new 4U, 60-drive DE6900 enclosure significantly reduces operational costs for capacity-intensive applications.

Keeping an eye to the future, the 7900 storage system offers unparalleled adaptability to meet changing requirements. Linear scalability, online expansion, and dynamic reconfiguration are just the beginning. The 7900 can also adapt to evolving infrastructures through its field-replaceable host interface cards. Initially purchased 8 Gb/s FC, 4 Gb/s FC and
1 Gb/s iSCSI host cards can be swapped out and intermixed as desired to support today’s and tomorrow’s environments.

The 7900 storage system includes the reliability and availability attributes to further push midrange storage into the enterprise. With redundant components, automated path failover and extensive online configuration, reconfiguration and maintenance capabilities, the 7900 is designed to ensure your data is available 24x7x365. The 7900 also offers drive-level encryption, multiple replication options, proactive drive health monitoring, RAID 6 technology, and persistent cache backup to ensure data is fully protected when it reaches the storage system.
